THE 14 SOD-OFF CYCLES OF RECOVERY

WELCOME

Let us be clear from the outset, we didn’t wake up one morning with the 14 Sod-Off Cycles of Recovery hitting us like some brain fart.   They are in fact more a blinding flash of the bloody obvious and the eventual outcome of literally hundreds of years of tragic collective personal experience of numerous addicts, hands on research and input from Organizational Change Experts and several Recovery Sector Professionals.   Maybe the most important thing for you to accept before you even start is - this is a ‘PROCESS’ not a ‘PROGRAMME’.

Programmes start and finish, but processes go on forever, repeating cycle after cycle in a spiral of ever-increasing recovery for the rest of your life. If you are not a Brit, you may well be asking, why this process is called the SOD-OFF Cycles of Recovery.  Well, firstly ‘SOD’ is defined as: a British offensive word for a person, that you are annoyed with, or think is unpleasant. I think we all know who that is in your case.  So when we say SOD-OFF: it means that SOD that you really do not like, now needs to go away and stay away or as we would say, “f**k off voice”.    Of course SOD is also an acronym for Slayers of Discontent, the title of the to-be published book by Sarah Bloom, that is incidental but perhaps important for your future success.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 1.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.   Stop lying to the world and worst of all yourself.   Ask those that love you to please help you abstain from your addiction in a safe place.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 2.

PREPARE YOUR FORCES.   Think of yourself as three separate armies - your Soul leads with recovery strategy, your Brain plans the action required, and your Body delivers it daily. All backed up by a trusted SOD-OFF Guide and Recovery Support Group.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 3.

STOP TRUSTING YOUR BRAIN.   Only your Soul can now be trusted with abstention.  Accept full accountability for letting your Brain run and ruin your life’s purpose to date.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 4.

MAKE A SHITE INVENTORY.   List all things that are negative about your life, be honest and dig deep to find their root causes.  Then ask your Soul to offer an alternative way forward for each.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 5.

SHARE YOUR SHITE INVENTORY. Walk your Guide and Recovery Group through your inventory and describe how you will look once your Soul has its way.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 6.

GIVE YOUR SOUL A VOICENow list all the things you wish you had said ‘No’ to in the past.  Also sharing with your SOD-OFF Guide the one item per month that you shall say ‘NO’ too - starting today.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 7.

LET YOUR SOUL FLY.   Now list all the things you wish you had said yes to in the past.  Also sharing with your SOD-OFF Guide the one item that you shall say 110% YES too - starting today.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 8.

TURNING MY VISION INTO REALITY.   Believing is seeing - clearly envision your life when all your listed ‘yes’ and ‘no’ are lived daily.   This vision must become non-negotiable and the blueprint for all future decisions.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 9.

REINVEST YOUR REWARD.     Apologise to those that you have hurt; greet everyone wondering how you can help them.   Never stop helping others slay their own discontent using what you now know.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 10.

BE DEEPLY GRATEFUL.   Your soul has pulled you through, so be content, but never self-satisfied or passive about your abstinence.  Without contentment you can never be grateful and without being deeply grateful you can never truly love.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 11.

PUBLICLY CELEBRATE.   Mark your weekly/monthly abstinence by doing something extra special for the ones you love - that should be a lot of people by now.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 12.

REPURPOSING YOUR DAILY LIFESTYLE.   Continuous improvement must be your goal – you can do everything a little bit better tomorrow if only you think about it and plan accordingly today

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 13.

PLAN TO DEAL WITH - NOT HIDE FROM.   Plan to deal with people, places, emotions and things that trigger the old shite negative behaviours.

SOD-OFF CYCLE # 14.

REMAIN VIGILANT.   Within every success your brain can deliver failure, given half a chance.  So always be humble, live only in the day and always with your purpose in mind.
